Major rise in people accessing Roscommon domestic violence services in recent months

It can be a tough time of year for many people, but there is help out there.

A local domestic violence support group has seen a major increase in demand for its services in the second half of this year.

According to Roscommon SafeLink, they've recorded a 20 percent jump in new clients over the last 6 months.

Court orders and court accompaniment have also increased by 40 percent in the same period.

With new hospitality restrictions introduced this week that will see pubs and restaurants close at 8pm, some organisations are worried over what it will mean for victims of violence.

Alcohol can be a contributing factor in violence against a partner, with new restrictions likely to result in many drinking at home with pubs closed at night.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Ann Carey and Linda Walsh from Roscommon SafeLink have this advice for people going through a tough time:
