A significant upgrade of the Longford Town CCTV system is currently underway.
The original camera network was installed in the town close to 20 years ago and has been operated by Longford County Council and local Gardaí.
The local authority is currently in the process of adding a further 11 cameras to the network at different locations around the town.
The system used a telecommunications mast located at the former Connolly Barracks in the town, which was recently decommissioned and a new, modern mast erected at the Garda Barracks.
Speaking to Let's Talk today, Councillor Gerry Warnock says while the process of setting up and maintaining a town wide CCTV system is extremely complicated, the benefits are worth the effort:
