A Roscommon wheelchair user is encouraging people to think about others when they are parking, or using public spaces generally.
Today is national Make Way Day, a campaign aimed at bringing people with disabilities and the wider community together to consider the needs of everyone when it comes to public spaces.
People are being asked not to park on footpaths, or to leave bicycles or bins blocking the way.
Mary Ganly who works as a supervisor with the Roscommon Disability Support Group has been using a wheelchair for just over 50 years.
She says people sometimes don't think about what they're doing and can cause a major obstacle for someone who has problems with their mobility.
"I don't think people do it deliberately because a lot of people are in a hurry and say "I'll be back in a sec". But at the same time they shouldn't be parking on the footpath. There's a lot of space now especially around Roscommon. People should think. We just need to make people aware by saying "I need to get out" or talk nicely to them without being rude. It is very difficult".
