A 19-year old man accused of rape was refused bail at a special sitting of Sligo District Court yesterday evening.
He was charged with raping a female in the Sligo town area last January.
Detective Garda Lydia Cawley, who gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution, told the court the accused made no reply to the charge after caution.
Senior Investigating Officer in the case, Inspector Paul Kilcoyne, told Judge Sandra Murphy he was objecting to bail on a number of grounds, which he outlined.
After an almost hour-long hearing, Judge Murphy refused bail.
She remanded the accused in custody for service of the Book of Evidence and to appear by video link at Harristown District Court this Friday, March 11th.
Legal aid was also granted.
