Gardaí were alerted to an incident in Lanesboro Co.Longford this morning.
An assault is alleged to have taken place in the area at approximately 12.15am.
A man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar to receive treatment for injuries.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Following a search by Gardaí, a man, aged in his 40s, was arrested in connection with this incident and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Longford Garda Station.
Investigation are currently ongoing.
