A man in his 20s has been arrested by Gardai in Granard investigating a serious assault in the town last weekend.
A young man suffered what are believed to be head injuries following the incident in the early hours of last Sunday in the north Longford town.
He was hospitalised in Cavan following the incident.
This afternoon, Gardaí has arrested a man in his 20s in relation to this assault and he is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Granard Garda station.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have been on Main Street Granard between 1:30-2:30am, Sunday 3rd April to come forward and they are particularly keen that anyone who may have camera footage from the area at this time to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
