A man has been arrested after a van rammed through the gates of a local Sinn Féin's TD's home.
It happened at 2 o'clock yesterday morning at Martin Kenny's property in Aughavas, Co Leitrim.
Deputy Kenny says the incident was 'very traumatic and frightening' for his wife, who was alone in the house at the time.
Gardai have arrested a man in his 40s this morning, on suspicion of endangerment.
He's being questioned in Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show Martin Kenny's party colleague and Longford/Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke described the incident as frightening.
''First off my thoughts are with Martin and his wife, it must have been an incredibly frightening experience. I understand that Martin's wife was actually alone in the home at the time when it happened and any event that happens so unexpectedly. There is an active of Garda investigation. At two o'clock in the morning when you're home on your own, it has to be deeply, deeply frightening, so condolences to them for the events and best wishes for the future. I just genuinely hope that they're okay.''
