A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Westmeath over the weekend.
Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred on Patrick Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At approximately, 1.40am Gardaí were alerted to a disturbance outside a premises involving two men.

A man in his 50s was injured in the incident and brought to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Another man in his 50s was arrested by investigating Gardaí yesterday afternoon and has been released without charge with a file set to be prepared for the DPP.
They are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
