A man in his 40s is due in court this morning charged with threatening to kill another individual in County Longford earlier this month.
The man, who is believed to be a Lithuanian national, was arrested in the Edgeworthstown area on Wednesday morning.
It’s believed the man was not known to gardaí previously before an incident earlier this month involving another man over what is believed to be a drugs debt and has been described as "living under the radar" in the county.
The Irish Independent is reporting that the man is a well-known criminal in his native country and has previously been jailed in Lithuania for 'intentional murder'.
He was questioned at Longford Garda station following his arrest on Wednesday and was last night charged with two counts of threatening to kill and two counts of assault causing harm.
He is due to appear at Mullingar District Court later this morning.
