A man has been seriously injured following an incident of alleged assault that took place overnight at Castlerea Boxing Club.
It's understood a number of armed men entered the club during the National Boy 4 Championship quarter finals.
A male, aged in his 40's, received medical treatment at the scene and was later conveyed to Galway University Hospital for treatment for serious injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
The Irish Athletic Boxing Association has condemned the incident at the youth sporting event, branding it as 'abhorrent'.
The I.A.B.A. has postponed the rest of the competition, which was due to take place today and tomorrow, over safety fears.
