A man has been jailed for two years for assaulting Leitrim native and LGBT+ activist, Izzy Kamikaze, during an anti-lockdown rally outside Leinster House last year.
Michael Quinn, of Malone Flats, Market Street, Ardee, Co Louth, admitted hitting her in the head with a large plank of wood, which had a tricolour attached to it.
Earlier that day, Ms Kamikaze, whose real name is Ruth O’Rourke, took part in a demonstration to show her support to front line healthcare workers.
Speaking outside court this afternoon, she said she was indifferent to the sentence handed down but was glad that he admitted what he did.
Michael Quinn of the National Party was sentenced to 3 years in prison today with the last one suspended. My favourite bit from Izzy's powerful, 13 minute long victim impact statement....#Ireland #NoPlaceForHate 💕@IzzyKamikaze @MoObstreperous pic.twitter.com/ZO8gA9l4Za
