A Romanian man has been jailed for over four years for his role in the robbery of two sex workers in Roscommon last year.
Ioan Galben, with an address in Castlerea Prison, appeared at Roscommon Circuit Court this afternoon.
Judge Francis Comerford heard that the accused was part of a three-man gang who robbed the male and female sex workers at an apartment in Roscommon town centre last October.
The court heard 37-year-old punched the female escort in the face and also kicked her in the back when she was on the ground.
Cash, as well as phones, were taken in the incident and the three men were subsequently arrested a number of days later in Dublin when some of the items were recovered.
Mr Galben pleaded guilty to robbery in March of this year - and at today's sitting of the court, Judge Francis Comerford described the incident as a “nasty, professional, premediated” robbery against vulnerable victims.
He said Galben was a cold-hearted participant in the incident and jailed him for five years, with the last ten months suspended.
The sentence was backdated to the time he went into custody last November.
His two co-accused will be sentenced in November.
