A man convicted of killing a 20-year-old Leitrim man in a one-punch assault in Mullingar almost ten years ago has been arrested after a four-week-long manhunt in Australia.
Last month police in New South Wales had issued a public appeal to find the 29-year-old Kildare native.
He was wanted in connection with two incidents - a one-punch assault and an unrelated stabbing and was arrested by appointment in Parramatta, Sydney, earlier this week.
He made no application for bail, and was remanded in custody to appear in court again in December.
The Irishman was convicted of the manslaughter of Carrick-on-Shannon native Andrew Dolan in Mullingar in December 2011 and served three years in jail.
Authorities in Australia had questioned how the 29-year old had entered the country with such a serious conviction on his record with the suggestion she will be deported once court proceedings in Australia have concluded.
