Gardai have confirmed that a man was arrested and prosecuted in Longford last year as part of a wider investigation into the production of false I.Ds and documents for foreign workers.
In the 2019 Garda Annual Report, details of an investigation carried out by the Garda National Immigration Bureau, involving searches in Longford and Meath, were confirmed.
The report states that searches at private homes were conducted in both counties which were identified as being associated with the production and distribution of bogus identify cards and documents for use by workers employed in the meat industry.
One man was subsequently arrested and prosecuted in respect of breaches of the provisions of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act 2001 and was fined €250 at Longford District Court for possession of a false driving licence.
