A man has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife by reason of insanity.
James Kilroy is accused of murdering Valerie French-Kilroy at their home at Kilbree Lower in Westport, Co Mayo in June 2019.
Valerie French-Kilroy was found dead in her home in Westport on the 14th of June 2019.
Her husband, James Kilroy, is now on trial for her murder. When the charge was put to him this afternoon, he pleaded NOT guilty by reason of insanity.
Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring told the potential jurors that Valerie was originally from Cork and at the time of her death, she was working as an occupational therapist with the HSE mental health services in Mayo.
She advised those on the jury panel not to serve if they knew anyone involved in the case or if they knew anything that has led to them developing strong views one way or another.
Once the jury was sworn in, the jurors were sent home until tomorrow morning when the prosecutor is expected to open the case before them.
