A man in his 40s has been shot dead in Dublin.
It happened in a residential area of Ballymun last night.
At around 9 o'clock last night, a man aged in his mid-40s was walking through the Belclare Terrace area of Ballymun.
He was approached by a gunman and shot up to 5 times.
Members of Dublin Fire Brigade attended to the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
Gardaí have launched a murder investigation and are appealing to anyone who was in the Belcare Terrace or Belclare Park areas between 8 and 9:15pm last night to come forward.
