Two people have drowned in separate incidents in the Shannonside region.
A woman has died following a drowning incident at Loch Gowna last night.
Gardai were called to the scene on the Cavan-Longford border at around 9.30pm yesterday after a woman in her 20s was reported to have got into difficulty in the water.
A large search, involving Cavan Fire Service and Civil Defence as well as Gardai and a coastguard helicopter took place with the woman's body discovered near the shoreline.
The woman’s body was subsequently removed to Navan Hospital for a post-mortem examination which is due to take place today.
Separately, a man's body was recovered from Spencer Harbour in Lough Allen in County Leitrim last night.
The man in his 70s, who was snorkelling at the time, failed to return to the surface and the alarm was raised.
His body was recovered from the water a short time later by local emergency services. The Coroner has been notified and the body of the deceased has been removed to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
