The manager of the Family Resource Centre in Granard says funding announced in recent days to help integration of international protection applicants is a vital part of building better communities for the future.
The Lus Na Gréine centre in Granard was allocated €12,000 on last Friday from a government fund aimed at organisations that help in the integration of International Protection Applicants.
Manager Eileen Finan says they've been running special summer programmes in recent weeks helping children living in the north Longford area come together and mix in an "out of school, play situation".
She says these kind of projects are very necessary to help people fit in with their local communities
"Thie will help us with summer programmes in 2024 when children will come together. This year, already, the integration that has taken place has been huge. Through the month of July when we're actually running programmes every week of the month, they're really about children having a social space to come together to play, to engage in social activities, outings, just to get to know each other out of school in a play-happy environment and it's amazing to see it. They just love it".
