Councillor Marty McDermott has been voted as the new Catahoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District.
The Fianna Fail representative was appointed to the position by his fellow council members at yesterday's Annual Meeting of the LEA.
Councillor McDermott held the position of leas catahoirleach in the district over the last year, with the Roscommon man now replacing Kathleen Shanagher in the role of Cathaoirleach.
Independent Councillor Anthony Waldron has now been appointed as the Leas Cathaoirleach for the Roscommon Municipal District.
Councillor McDermott is looking forward to the year ahead.
''It's a great honour and a privilege for myself to be elected as Cathaoirleach of the municipal district it's something I have a great interest in and there's a lot of good work to do and I'm very grateful, I'm very thankful to my colleagues my in the MD.''
