Longford Fine Gael Senator Micheal Carrigy says he believes RTE sports commentator and presenter Marty Morrissey should be sanctioned for his use of a Renault car without permission.
Senator Carrigy who is a member of the Oireachtas Media Committee was asked on the Joe Finnegan show this morning if he believed Mr Morrissey should be commentating on GAA games this weekend given the revelation.
The RTE presenter apologised yesterday for an "ad hoc arrangement" that saw him have the loan of a car for five years.
The car loan hadn't been approved by RTE management and Marty Morrissey said he would "assist the broadcaster with any issues that arise".
Senator Carrigy told the Joe Finnegan show that he believes management would have taken action over the issue…
'I would have thought that the acting Director General would have taken action because I see it as a breach of trust between him and his employer.
It's been set out in their contracts that they must receive the go ahead from their employer, which is RTE, if they're going to have any arrangement like this.
He had this arrangement in place for five years and he didn't inform them and it was only when this came to light in the media committee, that he put out a public statement.
So yes I do believe their must be a public sanction.'
