Drumkeerin councillor Mary Bohan is set to become a councillor for a half a century, tallies suggest.

Bohan has been a councillor for the past 45 years and is Fianna Fail's longest serving councillor, having first been elected in 1979.

With all but one box tallied, she is on 835 votes. She is in second place, behind Manorhamilton-based Independent, James Gilmartin, a teacher and farmer. He is married with three young children. He has 1,313.

Mary Bohan is on 835. Then Padraig Fallon, of Sinn Féin, on 761. Followed by Fianna Fail’s Justin Warnock, on 731, Felim Gurn, Independent, on 728. Then, Eddie Mitchell, another Independent, on 478.

The big news is that Fine Gael may have no seat in Manorhamilton. Currently, the party has two councillors, Frank Dolan and Sean McDermott, who are both retiring.

Fine Gael’s two candidates are outside the top size, according to these tallies - with Kevin Comiskey fighting for the last seat, on 430.
