The foundation confirmed that she would be taking a leave of absence from the date the election is announced.

The Mayo Roscommon Hospice CEO has confirmed she will run as a Fine Gael general election candidate in Mayo. Martina Jennings had recently fuelled speculation when she became a party member in the Crossboyne area of the county. The foundation confirmed that she would be taking a leave of absence from the date the election is announced.

It described Ms Jennings as 'a driving force behind the establishment of both Mayo and Roscommon Hospices'. The Mayo woman has said she's not daunted by entering the world of politics. Speaking to Shannonside News, Martina Jennings said the challenge won't change the way she operates:
