Member of Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue dies in Ben Bulben fall

A member of Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue has died in a fall on Ben Bulben.

Gardaí say the man's body has been recovered from the scene and taken to Sligo University Hospital.

The man in his 40s, was hiking with a friend, when he slipped while climbing a gully above the Ben Bulben Forest Walk.

He suffered a head injury and despite an intensive rescue operation overnight, could not be revived.

Both men were local, and experienced climbers.

Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue says they are devasted by the loss of their friend and colleague - but they're reassuring the public that they remain operational while mourning their loss.
