The FORSA trade union is highlighting serious concern about the lack of extra funding for mental health services in Roscommon, Mayo and Galway over the coming winter months.

It follows the disclosure of the Winter Plan for the region which shows funding for 261 more posts in primary and social care but none for mental health services.

The additional funding in the plan will enhance services for the elderly, people with a disability and care in the community.

FORSA representative Padraig Mulligan says while the extra funding is welcome and badly needed in the areas concerned, the lack of help for the already hugely challenged mental health supports is unacceptable.
