The Adult Mental Health Unit at Sligo University Hospital has received one of the highest compliance rates in the country following an inspection by the national mental health watchdog.
Figures released by the Mental Health Commission highlight a 97 percent compliancy level at the Northwest facility.
The 2021 annual report saw compliance ratings fall by four percent to 90 at the Department of Psychiatry at Roscommon Hospital.
However it remains above the national average of 80 percent.
Elsewhere, The Admission Unit and St Edna's Unit at St Loman's Hospital in Mullingar was also found to be compliant at 87 percent.
While local facilities scored highly the report revealed a sizable gap in public and private care.
Inadequate resourcing and poor governance arrangements were the main areas of concern.
The Commission's Chief Executive, John Farrelly, says serious investment is needed.
''There needs to be a strategic funding plan to invest in the HSE services. But the HSE also needs to make sure that they're using that money wisely and keeping the buildings up to date. Again, the HSE needs to come up to the standards of the independent sector and it needs to make sure that all patients all over Ireland receive these services.''
