The storm, which hit the country in the final week of January, flattened 11,750 hectares of forestry in the Shannonside region.

Agriculture Junior Minister Michael Healy-Rae says his department is working to support local farmers through what he has called the 'horror story' that was Storm Éowyn.
The storm, which hit the country in the final week of January, flattened 11,750 hectares of forestry in the Shannonside region.

10% of forestry in Co. Leitrim and 12% in Roscommon has been knocked down in the aftermath of the storm.
The government is insisting forestry owners get a felling licence in order to remove the fallen timber, however the long waiting times associated to the acquisition of these licences have been a growing cause for concern.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, the Junior Minister in the Department of Agriculture with responsibility for forestry, farm safety and horticulture said he is committed to ensure applications for licences are dealt with swiftly:
