A senior HSE official is urging leaving cert students, and their families, in the Shannonside Northern Sound region to cocoon in the run up to the exams.
Under new guidelines from the Health Service, those with positive cases of Covid-19 or who are close contacts to confirmed cases will not be able to sit the Leaving Cert exam and will have to rely on calculated grades.
The exams are due to begin next week, with nearly 40 per cent of students choosing not to attend exams and instead accept calculated results.
Director of Public Health for the Midlands, Dr Una Fallon, is urging parents to limit all contacts and gatherings in the household in the run up to the exams.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, Dr Fallon says there are very simple steps to follow to reduce the risk.
