Management at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar are urging patients only to attend the facility if absolutely necessary. 17 people are waiting for a hospital bed this afternoon in Mullingar, the majority on trolleys. The Hospital has activated its escalation protocol and staff are working to manage the current adult in-patient capacity together with scheduled care.
Those attending the hospital today are being asked to consider their options and use the Minor Injury Unit in cases where the criteria applies. Elsewhere in the region, there are 30 patients waiting for a bed in Sligo University Hospital and 2 in Portiuncula.
