Junior Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon is appealing to older farmers to be extra cautious, and for all farmers to "call out" dangerous practices.
The Kildare South TD is the first Minister to be tasked specifically with Farm Safety.
A record number of people have been killed on farms so far this year and Minister Heydon says attitudes will have to change if lives are to be saved.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show today as part of Farm Safety Week, Martin Heydon says he fully realises that some older farmers may have no choice but to remain working, and that others simply want to continue for the love of the life.
He's appealing to everyone to be more safety aware and not to be afraid to point out if something is being done in a dangerous way...
