A pilot policing and community project trialled in Longford is now being rolled out across the country. The Community Safety Partnerships are set up with the aim to combat anti-social behaviour and criminality by creating a tailored local community safety plan with input from the local community and public services. Longford was one of three local authorities to trial the scheme, with it's operation branded a success by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee.
The Justice Minister has now confirmed the incoming chairs of the Longford and Leitrim Community Safety Partnership. The Leitrim partnership will be chaired by Pat Forde, the outgoing chair of Youth Work Ireland's North Connaught branch. Speaking to Shannonside FM News, Pat described his reaction to the appointment:
