The Minister for Justice believes the implementation of the Longford Community Safety plan will ensure pride is restored in the county.
Speaking at the official launch of the strategy at Longford Council Offices this morning, Helen McEntee stated the rollout of the plan will give residents a sense of safety.
The LCSP is made up of a number of agencies including the local authority, Gardai, Councillors and Youth groups.
Over the next two years, the group hopes to increase Garda foot patrols, introduce additional CCTV and support crime prevention initiatives.
Walk in hubs will also be set up in the Ardnacassa area with the rollout of the text alert scheme also continuing.
Minister McEntee says Longford is the first county to launch the plan and it's hoped it can be a template for other counties.
"Their whole focus is not just on people being safe but feeling safe too. I just want to congratulate everyone. They’ve had fantastic leadership and involvement from everyone and now really it’s about the implementation. What is great is they’ve already started some of the action and I’m really looking forward to working with them and supporting them over the next 18 months. To have this template and plan launched is really wonderful".
