A Sligo-Leitrim Minister says that with the greenlight of a third vaccine for use in Europe, hope is growing for a return to normality in the near future.
Minister with Responsibility for Public Health, Well Being and National Drugs Strategy, means the vaccination schedule can now be ramped up.
The jab is the third to be authorised by the European Medicines Agency and will be given in two doses up to 12 weeks apart.
It's been approved for all over 18s, including those over the age of 55.
The EMA says there aren't enough results yet to show how well it will work in older adults, but that protection is expected.
Minister Feighan says the country has been through an ordeal but there is light at the end of the tunnel:
