A new proactive health project targeting communities across Roscommon has been launched today.
The Healthy Ireland Programme is designed to counteract negative health outcomes as a result of smoking, alcohol, poor diet and obesity.
It also aims to address the wider social and environmental factors that impact on health and wellbeing.
The programme was launched by Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy, Hildegarde Naughton this morning.
The Minister is currently taking a tour of the town, visiting local groups and businesses such as the Melting Pot, Anam Gallery and local cycle and walkways.
Speaking to Shannonside FM, Minister Naughten has thanked those involved in rolling out the programme locally:
"I'm really excited to see all the fantastic work happening here by Roscommon County Council. They're working in collaboration with the health and wellbeing subcommittee, the Roscommon LEADER partnership, and Roscommon Sports Partnership. They're working together to increase physical activity and mental health of the people in the county and I want to sincerely thank everyone involved for their fantastic partnership and dedication that they've put in to rolling out these health and wellbeing projects across the county".
