The Minister for Defence Simon Coveney has said the Government will continue to invest in facilities at the Custume Barracks in Athlone.
The Minister was speaking following questions raised over the future of the barracks by Longford-Westmeath Senator Micheál Carrigy.
Senator Carrigy asked that training of non commissioned officers be re-established at the Midlands base as well as the re-instatement of the third brigade.
Minister Coveney confirmed that the Department of Defence will continue to invest in Custume Barracks as it is a strategic part of Ireland's defence force infrastructure.
