The Minister for Community and Rural Affairs says there must be better communication around the housing of refugees. Minister Heather Humphreys was speaking ahead of a visit to Castlerea earlier today where she opened the new An Chistin Food Hub. The Department of Integration recently confirmed plans to house 52 asylum seekers at the Riverwalk Apartments in the town.
A number of protests have taken place since the announcement and locals have warned of a rising Far Right element. Minister Humphreys said the issue had been raised by local Fine Gael members and more consultation was needed with local residents.
