The Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabbitte has said the issue of organisations like St Christopher's Services in Longford finding themselves unable to recruit staff because of pay differences, is something that is still being
worked on at government level.
The Minister was responding to Longford Fine Gael Senator Micheal Carrigy when he raised the issue in the Seanad this week.
The Fine Gael Senator outlined the ongoing problems in recruiting and retaining staff due to the fact that the Longford facility is still classified as a section 39 voluntary facility as opposed to similar HSE run
sites.
He says this means that staff are not getting the same level of pay as their colleagues in HSE run facilities and the issue is causing major challenges.
Responding to Senator Carrigy Minster Anne Rabbitte says the plight of St Christopher's and other voluntary services around the county is still being considered at government level to see if a solution can be found.
