A Leitrim Councillor says she's disappointed breast check screenings will not return to the county until 2024.
Currently, people hoping to avail of the service in Leitrim must attend a mobile unit based at Sligo Hospital however Ita Reynolds Flynn is calling for a unit to be located in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The Ballinamore based Councillor received confirmation this week that the screening will not be re-instated in Leitrim until March of next year.
The Cathaoirleach of the local authority believes this decision must be reversed as it's forcing people to travel outside the county for the service.
I would like to see that the mobile unit would be back in Carrick-on-Shannon.
For people from Carrigallen , it's so far for them to go down to Sligo.
I know they would accommodate and take you to Roscommon, but really it is not suitable for the south of the county , and really it should be in our own county.
That's what people want, that's what people know, and it's the county town.
I understand there is a back-log due to Covid and they're trying to get people checked as soon as possible, and in fairness they are doing their best with that, but it's just that I would like to see it in my own county.
