Young people should be educated about sex and contraception according to a local political activist.
That's the view of Roscommon student Isabelle Flanagan following a controversy caused by a priest in Kerry over the weekend.
Fr Séan Sheehy made disparaging remarks about abortion, transgenderism and homosexuality during mass in Listowel, as well as referencing the provision of condoms to teenagers.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, the Sligo IT student and political activist believes teens need to be supported and educated to make the right decisions when it comes to sex.
"I would say young people are having sex and it's better that we protect them rather than not giving them condoms. It's better to be safe than sorry. I think we should be educating people about sex and I don't think we should be taking advice from a priest about young people having sex. It's not any of his business what young people get up to. I don't think young people care about what a priest thinks about condoms at all".
