More focus needed on minority sports says leading local sports coach

Noel says Team Ireland's performance at the Paris Olympics shows the benefit of a stronger focus on individual athleticism.

A leading local sports coach says more action is needed to encourage people of all ages to increase their physical activity.

It comes following comments made by former boxing champion Bernard Dunne in relation to investment in community sports clubs.

Speaking on RTÉ Sport, the Olympics pundit said Government support is crucial for clubs and athletes across the country.

Roscommon Sports Partnership co-ordinator Noel Feeley, however, says funding alone won't be enough to improve the nation's fitness levels.

He says Team Ireland's performance at the Paris Olympics shows the benefit of a stronger focus on individual athleticism.

Speaking to Shannonside News, Noel said it was important parents and young athletes looked beyond traditional team sports:
