A Longford councillor is calling for a proportionate distribution of Garda resources locally.
Last year, Longford was one of the counties to be selected for the pilot Community Safety Partnership programme.
The aim of the programme is to increase Garda foot patrols, introduce additional CCTV and support crime prevention initiatives.
12 months on, Councillor Séamus Butler says some of these objectives have still not been achieved.
He believes that there needs to be a fairer distribution of Garda resources to areas like Longford for the LCSP programme to succeed
"So, if the Department of Justice, along with the Garda Commissioner who's in charge of the deployment of the force, want to see this pilot working in Longford, which we work very hard on, they have to give us the resources. They've now given it to Dublin. So, we want a proportional response for Longford with increased presence of Gardaí through overtime and deployment of forces so that Longford can move forward once and for all from this continuous reputational damage of violence on the streets".
