Planning permission is being sought for the building of an additional 75 houses at the Gleann Riada housing estate at Ballyminion on the outskirts of Longford town.
The planning notice has been issued this week and the applicant now has another two weeks in which to formally lodge an application with the local authority.
The Gleann Riada estate was the subject of national headlines a decade ago due to a serious issue with sewerage and gases which leaked into some homes.
A large part of the development was taken over by NAMA during the recession and an unoccupied apartment block was demolished.
Longford council has taken the estate "in charge" in more recent times.
The planning notice published this week seeks to build an additional 40 three-bedroom houses, and 30 two-bedroom units, as well as the reinstallation of entrance access as well as a new access road through the site.
The HSE built a primary health care centre in the area in recent years and a regeneration proposal for the area published in 2019 says the current zoning in the area provides for residential consolidation
