A motorcyclist has died following a road crash in Westmeath.
The collision with a car happened near Tubberclair outside Athlone yesterday evening.
Emergency services were alerted to a crash on the N55 at Lissoy near Tubberclair at about 5.50 yesterday evening.
The motorcyclist - a man in his 50s - was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital for a post-mortem exam.
No other injuries were reported.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will begin examining the scene this morning, with a diversion in place on the N55 between Athlone and Ballymahon.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time - especially those with dashcam footage - to come forward.
This marks the sixth death on Irish roads since Friday.
