A motorist has been arrested near Mullingar after local Gardaí recorded them driving at 175 kilometres per hour.
Members of the Westmeath Roads Policing Unit conducting speed checks on the N4 near the town clocked the driver of the vehicle travelling 75 kilometres per hour over the speed limit yesterday evening.
The motorist subsequently failed a breath test when stopped by Gardaí.

The driver was arrested at the scene and court proceedings are to follow.
