Local Gardaí are urging motorists to be mindful of athletes taking part in tomorrow's Longford Marathon.
Hundreds of runners are expected at the event across tomorrow with traffic restrictions in place in the town from 7am to 7 pm.
Athletes will be taking part in 5k, half marathon, full and ultra marathon distances over the day.
Local Gardaí are asking motorists to be patient and drive with extra care during the event.
Longford Chamber of Commerce President and Marathon Committee member Fiona Fenlon says the traffic restrictions will be cleared as fast as possible on Sunday evening:
"There will be a lot of people running the roads. The main road will not be closed, and a lot of the roads the runners are actually going to be on, particularly out in the country, they're all still open. Now we have it stewarded extremely well and the guards are really supportive. Excellent team behind the even as well, which is excellent. But I just want to appeal to all road users, and pedestrians alike, just to be wary of people running and just take precautions when you're out and about."
