The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) are appealing to motorists to take extra care as the number of tractors, trailers and other farm machinery using the roads increases during the summer season.
The appeal comes as farmers and contractors cut silage across the Shannonside Northern Sound region on the back of better weather conditions.
Patrick McCormack is the chairman of Monaghan IFA.
He says that farmers and contractors are "making the best" of the good spell of weather and it is therefore imperative that road users remain vigilant, particularly on narrow country roads.
Mr McCormack added that the last thing anyone wanted was for a serious road traffic collision to occur.
