The amount of rain that fell in the Shannonside Northern Sound region last month was almost 180 per cent of previous averages.

According to Met Eireann's climate report for July, rainfall recorded at both Ballyahise and Mulllingar's stations in July was 177 percent of the average for the month recorded in the 30 years between 1981 and 2010.

Temperatures are also down from the same comparable period, with Ballyhaise recording a drop of 1.8 degrees and Mount Dillon in Roscommon down 1.3 degrees.

The month's lowest air minimum temperature was recorded on Monday the 20th at Mount Dillon, at 2.2 °C, its lowest July minimum since records began 10 years ago.
