23 people are currently waiting on trolleys for a hospital bed at the Midlands Facility according to figures fro the INMO.

The Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar has activated special measures to try and discharge patients due to overcrowding at the facility.

The hospital has again issued a warning to the public that its Emergency Department remains very busy due to an influx of many seriously ill patients, many of whom are over 75 years of age and have a variety of complex healthcare needs.

Consultants are doing additional ward rounds to facilitate discharges and the hospital is asking that people think about all their care and treatment options, and to keep ED services for the patients who need them most.
