People in the midlands region are being asked to put their hands in their pockets one last time for the MRI scanner appeal for Mullingar hospital.
A fundraising campaign set up 5 years ago to raise €950,000 for the scanner has fallen slightly short of its target.
The HSE has confirmed that works are starting on site for the installation of the MRI this week and it's hoped to have the service available for people by the autumn of next year.
The Friends of the Reginal Hospital Mullingar Group say they're delighted with progress on the project and hope they can make up the small shortfall in funds through their I-Donate page.
John Mc Grath from the group says the MRI will be a vital diagnostic tool for people of all ages across the region.
