Senior management at Mullingar Regional Hospital has called for additional staff and investment at the Midlands facility.
The Hospital manager and clinical director met with Health Minister Stephen Donnelly this week, during his visit to the town for the Fianna Fail think-in.
It's understood staffing of the MRI service, the refurbishment of the catering department and the development of an acute floor as well as the need for additional theatre space was discussed.
The meeting also sought confirmation of funding for the new outpatient building which is due to commence in October of this year with a cost of 6.5 million euro.
Hospital Manager Kay Slevin says the meeting was constructive and she believes the Minister has taken all issues raised on board.
