Getting a Covid vaccine is now almost as important as getting a scan for pregnant women according to a senior women's health official in the region.
The first walk-in vaccination clinics for pregnant women opened at the Midlands regional hospital in Mullingar this week and will continue on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week.
The clinics have been established after several pregnant women have been treated for Covid-19 across the country, with up to 20 women receiving critical care in ICUs.
Professor Chris Fitzpatrick is Clinical Lead for the vaccination programme for the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group and a Consultant Obstetrician who works at Mullingar Hospital
He says studies have shown the vaccine is very safe for women and their unborn child.
